Tongging

Tongging is a lethargic little fishing village at the north end of Lake Toba near to the spectacular Sipisopiso Waterfall and an hour or so's drive from Bukit Lawang. Pinned in on three side by lush green hills and the vast expanse of the lake spread out before it, Tongging certainly doesn’t lack scenery. There is not much to do here which is why most people come. You can take a hike into the hills or follow the river up to the falls, or simply put your feet up on your balcony with a book and enjoy the view. There are a few places to stay, ranging from rustic to expensive and you certainly won’t be bothered by the other tourists here. The road along the eastern side of the lake to Parapat is a charming meander through the countryside and forest and should not be missed (2 hours).
