Lake Kawar

This lovely little spot is an hour away from Berastagi and approximately 4km from Sigaranggarang, a village right at the bottom of Mt. Sinabung and the usual setting off point for climbing the volcano.

It’s a peaceful place, with only a couple of very simple food places that barely qualify for the term ‘cafe’, and a few homes dotted around. There is a campsite with toilets and a few pagodas to shelter from the sun while taking in the tranquil view of the lake and surrounding rainforest.

It’s common to stay here the night before making the climb up Sinabung, in order to get an early start. To arrange to climb Sinabung, click here...
