Where to Stay in Tuk Tuk, Lake TobaThere
is a huge amount of choice of places to stay in Tuk Tuk and it would
be a never ending task to keep it all up to date. What follows is a
personal choice of the best and most popular accommodation. RomlanThis is a lovely and secluded little place run by a German lady and her Indonesian husband; a combination which is reflected in their tasty menu. All of the newer rooms are smart and clean with en-suite bathroom and look out over the lake. They also have a couple of traditional Batak houses, split into two apartments each; the upper ones have balconies and all have outside bathrooms, albeit with hot water, as have all of the bathrooms. Newer rooms Rp 60,000 and traditional rooms Rp 35,000. The place is difficult to find from the road but you can ask the ferry to drop you off right there. Romlan *** If you require pick-up from the airport, ferry or bus-station we can arrange it for you. Cost Rp.900,000 Please call +62 81 376 0386 46 or email steve@hellomistertravel.com *** Bagus BayBagus Bay has a beautiful restaurant and terrace looking out over the lake. The food is pretty good and fairly priced, as are the rooms which range from the very basic to the very nice. The service is relaxed to the point of non-existent at times but this is, after all, Indonesia. They have a wide range of rooms, from very basic with a single bed, to traditional Batak style houses. All rooms are said to have hot water although that is not always the case. Prices from Rp 20,000 to Rp 100,000. Traditional Batak music and dancing on Saturdays which isn't as cheesy as it sounds. Nice atmosphere. Bagus
Bay Homestay Bar and Restaurant *** If you require pick-up from the airport, ferry or bus-station we can arrange it for you. Cost Rp.900,000 Please call +62 81 376 0386 46 or email steve@hellomistertravel.com *** Samosir CottagesA large and popular place with a vast and airy restaurant, billiard room and TV room with plenty of DVDs. They have a wide array of rooms of varying styles and appeal. It's rather hard to pin them down on prices as they seem to change on the season, holiday, weather and whim. Their “VIP” rooms are rather over-priced at around Rp 300,000 and the others range all the way down to Rp 50,000ish. They have internet. They have also opened a new place called Samosir Village Resort which is smart but rather lacking in atmosphere. You can find out more information about both places at www.samosircottages.com Samosir

Cost Rp.900,000 Please call +62 81 376 0386 46 or email steve@hellomistertravel.com *** Carolina CottageCarolina is far more than a cottage, indeed it is a vast sprawling hotel and probably the most popular place to stay in Tuk Tuk. They have a lovely garden onto the lake with pergolas and sun-loungers, an area marked off to swim with diving board. Their restaurant is tastefully decorated, airy and with a lovely view of Toba. The rooms range from a bizarrely priced Rp 47,500 for a basic room up on the hill with cold water, to a family room with four beds, a living room and mini-bar and bathroom with hot water for Rp 230,000 and every denomination in between. Popular
but possibly too busy at weekends. Email: carolina@indosat.net.id *** If you require pick-up from the airport, ferry or bus-station we can arrange it for you. Cost Rp.900,000 Please call +62 81 376 0386 46 or email steve@hellomistertravel.com *** Tabo CottagesWith its stylishly decorated rooms and villas, Tabo is a little more expensive than some of the hotels on Tuk Tuk but the money is certainly well spent. It has a beautiful open restaurant, looking out over the garden, pavillion and, of course, lake. There is a strong sense of health and well-being reflected in the menu here, with an emphasis on vegetarian food and juices; they also bake their own, very tasty, bread. All of the rooms are extremely well designed with natural furnishings and soft colours. Prices begin at Rp 165,000 for a 'superior' room and go all the way up to Rp 800,000 for a 'VIPBatak suite' which can sleep six and has conference facilities for thirty. The Batak Villas for Rp 285,000 are beautiful. Hot water throughout. Tuk-tuk
